Other Products

NSW Cypress saw-millers produce a range of other products that are not covered under the "Cypress NSW" double certification program. All of these products are still manufactured from logs obtained from sustainably managed forests, the AFS certified resources of Forests NSW; however they are not subjected to the requirements of the ATIC process.

These products include weatherboards (exterior cladding), decking, panelling (interior linings), skirting and architraves, landscaping and fencing.

Cypress weatherboards are widely used throughout NSW and readily available in the Greater Metropolitan areas with profiles such as rusticated, (single) log cabin, double log cabin, splayed and chamfer board processed in various widths.

Decking is commonly available but may contain sapwood which is not recognised as durable. When used in exposed decking situations it is recommended that the timber be coated all round with an approved water repellent, before installation, and the face of the board, containing the sapwood, placed down onto the joist when fixed. The deck should then be coated with a good quality decking finish and regularly maintained, as with any other species of decking timber.

Protect your exterior products.

In exterior above-ground applications Cypress is a Durability Class 1 timber, however without protection, the timber colour may be bleached; surface fibres may loosen; boards may cup or warp; cross sectional sizes may slowly erode; continual shrinkage and swelling may cause cracking.

Without protection your cladding, deck or structure may prematurely deteriorate.

Protection can be provided by the application of coatings such as paints, water repellents, preservatives and pigmented stains. The main objective is to prevent or retard the uptake of moisture and the absorption of ultraviolet light.

Decking is particularly important as foot traffic, which causes abrasion, will increase the level of exposure and therefore specialised coatings are necessary.

The service life of all Cypress products used externally can be markedly extended with the correct type and application of coating product, it is also recommended that a regular maintenance program be put in place.
