Australian Forestry Standard

Forests NSW was independently certified as compliant with the Australian Forestry Standard (AS 4708) in December 2006.

Forest certification has become an increasingly important method of showing consumers that timber products are produced in a sustainable and legal way. The strength of this claim is reinforced through the independent nature of the Australian Forestry Standard (AFS), its national and international recognition and independence of the auditing process.

In order to fully utilise AFS certification the processor or manufacturer also needs to be certified to the Chain of Custody Standard (AS 4707) by an independent auditor. The purpose of this Chain of Custody (CoC) Standard is to assure the end consumer that the certified timber supplied or used in the end product they purchase can be tracked back to a certified forest.

However because of the AFS certification gained by Forests NSW all consumers can be assured that Cypress timber and products supplied through sawmillers who exclusively source their raw material from Forests NSW are using certified timber.

Cypress NSW and Forests NSW are urging all Cypress sawmillers who source their raw materials from Forests NSW to gain CoC certification as a way of verifying their own individual products.
